learn stragety: spaced practice

Yana Weinstein and Megan Smith have done a lot of research on how people learn. They have a website about learn strategies. Strategies so you can remember much things on long term. I’m going to tell about one of them: spaced practice.

Spaced practice

The girls found out that cramming doesn’t work. You learn quickly and remember it for a day of two. You can get a nice note, but then you forget almost everything.

Space all of the studying, what you always do in the end right before the exam, out across a couple of days, weeks or even months. And learn every day a little bit. You need to forget something in order to help yourself learning by remembering it. You can’t suddenly decide the day before or from the exam to learn, you need time.

By example: You learn on a day something you did that day in class, but you also learn the most important things from previous classes.

Teachers and students can use this strategy. Teachers by repeat something from other classes and students by learn something again and again.

My autobiography

Hello, I am Aniek Molenberg. I am 15 years old. I was born in Groningen, in the hospital, on the 16th of May in 2003. I have an older sister, Eline and a younger sister, Lianne. We live in Uithuizen, with my parents (Trees and Maurits), a dog and three cats. We live in a detached house.

The biggest achievement in my live is that I am going to an attend school of pre-university education, Het Hogeland College in Warffum. And the thing I liked the most of all my memories is when my parents married. They married on Curaçao and before they married, my parents had a surprise for me and my sisters. We were going to swim with dolphins! That was very nice. And this summer we dived in Spain. That was also very cool.

I live in a quarter with nice and different people. There are young couples and older ones. There are much children’s but not that much from my age. The most are much younger like 6 and 7 years old. In Uithuizen are some supermarkets and other stores. You also have three churches. A gym and a sports hall, a soccer field, three primary schools and one secondary school.

I am going to Het Hogeland College in Warffum. There are nice students and teachers in school. I have much, nice friends and the most other people are also nice. I think the building is not that beautiful. It is a little bit boring. The whole building is white from the inside. Form the outside it is a sort of brown. The ambiance in the school is chill, sometimes too chill. Then you don’t do anything, in class. Sometimes there are parties and they have some special lessons, by example Spanish.

With one side of the family I have no contact. With the other side I do have contact. I have a grandmother and grandfather and an aunt and uncle. My aunt is stewardess and I think that is really cool. My grandparents are with retirement. My uncle does something with refugees. My mom is at home and my father is an accountant. My big sis is doing a nurse study in Groningen. And my little sister is going to the same school as me.

Most of my friends I know from school. The other friends I know, I know from soccer and others from horse riding, what I used to do. We are going to parties together and go shopping or chill at someone’s home. A pair of them I also play soccer with.  Every Saturday we have a match and on Monday and Wednesday we have training. I work at a restaurant near by my house. My sister is my college and most of the time I work with her. One of my friends also works at this restaurant.

My greatest memory I already told. It was when my parents were going to marry. Also I really like the Sinterklaas and Christmas celebration with my family. The vacations with my parents and sister is something I don’t want to lose, because it is something we do since we were little.

Over 10 years, I want to have a good job, what I really like. I want to make a world trip. I want to know more about other cultures and people. It is my dream for a long time. I don’t know if I have a boyfriend or something by then and actually, about that I don’t care. I hope I am happy and healthy by then and that my family is okay. I want to have kids later, but I don’t know when.
